About the Author
Bob Mehr is an award-winning music critic for the Gannett-owned newspaper The Commercial Appeal and a longtime contributor to MOJO magazine. He's also served as an editor, writer, and columnist for Village Voice Media, New Times Inc., and Chicago Reader. He contributed liner notes to the Grammy-winning Big Star box set Keep an Eye on the Sky and has written essays for reissues of the Replacements, Kinks, Warren Zevon, Dixie Chicks, Al Green, and many others. A native of Los Angeles, he lives in Memphis, Tennessee.

The book we always wanted, but never thought we'd get.

Unbelievably great, revealing, inspiring and at times utterly heartbreaking. I've followed The Replacements and Paul and Tommy solo for 20 years. They were the first band that I heard that immediately made me think "this is the band I've been looking for all my life." I'd been an obsessive music fan since I was a child, but nothing spoke to me the way their music and lyrics did. Finding out about there insecurities, self destructiveness in general underdog status in life only made me feel more connected to the material. Fact that Bob Stinson died on my 18th birthday was also a strange connection. My point being that I have followed the band, poured through the Skyway newsletters / mailing list, newsgroups and every article I could find on the internet over the years. I've seen the documentary and the two books that have come out previously (3 if you include Our Band Could be Your Life) and halfway through the book I still don't feel like "i already knew this stuff." Even hearing anecdotes you've heard over the years feel different when told from the perspective of the people that were actually there as opposed to bystanders, latchers on and the general random people quoted in the previous 2 books. This is the first and only book that has it straight from the horse's mouths. A true warts and all, sometimes painful, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes inspiring and always real. This is the one we've been waiting for I never thought we would get. Enjoy it and pass it along. I only hope thousands and thousands more that make music or art in general will be inspired by what these people did and what it took for them to make it. We love them and we couldn't imagine a world without them. Ladies and gentlemen The Replacements.

Best rock n roll book out there

I'm a sucker for rock n roll books of all stripes and honestly, this book is in a class of its own . Exhaustively researched, the author is clearly a fan but this is no love letter. It is unflinching with no stone left unturned or unhurled through a tour bus window. Over 500 pages and not a whiff of fluff or filler. If you "get" this band, you will want to read this story.

Not the usual rags to riches to rehab rock 'n' roll story

A ten year labor of love by Bob Mehr, this book is a fascinating read for any lover of rock music. If you are not a Replacements fan, Trouble Boys is a gripping and very entertaining look at one band's harrowing journey from the basement through the music biz. If you love the band, you will be in heaven with this insightful bio of the wild ride that was the Replacements. Any fan who ever wondered why they remained forever outsiders despite their abundant talent and potential will find their answers within this biography. Not for the fainthearted, it is nevertheless a stunning accomplishment and credit goes to Bob Mehr who was able get so deeply inside of the oblique and mysterious legend of this unique American band. You also will appreciate rhe honesty of the band members in revealing so much if themselves. I couldn't put it down.
