"This is Elise Stone's first published work, and for a first novel, I think she scored well. The plot unfolds at a good pace and there's a lot packed into the 210-218 pages. Stone's descriptive style, make the background and characters come to life, and you get a good feel for the setting. Wonderfully written passages that makes you think you're right there in this desert landscape.
The book is Christian, but not preachy, and the protagonist is a young woman whose own faith has been sorely tested. I liked that she's not the one who is trying to convert anyone, nor are the other characters preaching to her, or to the reader. All in all, the story was what I'd call "uplifting," and with that, I can honestly say that I highly recommend it. -- R.P. Dahlke, author of the "Dead Red" mystery series

No one was more surprised than I was when this story came to me. Although I'd been writing mysteries for years, I'd never written a word of Christian fiction in my life. In fact, I almost didn't write it. But something was pushing me to write this book.
It isn't traditional Christian fiction in a lot of ways. My characters are like the Christians I know--flawed, but trying to be more of God wants them to be. They make mistakes. They don't become perfect because they believe. And the wrath of heaven doesn't descend on them when they continue to sin. They don't quote Bible verses in everyday conversations. But their behavior is loving and caring in the same way Christ's was. I call it realistic Christian fiction.
While the Community of Faith plays an important part in the story, and it often reads like romantic suspense, Faith, Hope, and Murder is still primarily a traditional mystery. There are clues and suspects and, I hope, a challenging yet fair puzzle. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Fair warning! If it matters to you it has curse words in it.

I just finished reading this book. It was okay as far as the story line goes. It would have been better and I would have given it more stars had there not been so many curse words in it. It thought they were unnecessary, especially since it was supposed to be a Christian book. I realize that there are people out there that are not Christians and they are part of the story, but you can make a point without actually putting the curse words in there. I especially did not appreciate the fact that some of the curse words came from the "pastor", who also believed in drinking beer. That is not the kind of religion that I want to be part of, it just doesn't seem right or biblical. The mystery part was good and well written.

Too many negatives

Unlike many of the four and five-star reviewers, I do not know the author. This review contains a spoiler alert.
This story has a lot in it... some sexual harassment, drug and alcohol use and abuse, romance, murder, talk of abortion, illegal aliens, a corrupt border patrol guard, unemployment, extramarital affairs and swearing. I felt like God was treated like a genie that grants wishes (i.e., if you are dying in a desert, cry out, "God, if you are real, save me." And He does. If you want to find the damsel in distress in the middle of a storm, cry out, "Help me find her." A rainbow will appear suddenly and at the end of a rainbow is a white cross, right by the damsel.
There were so many issues and topics that it seemed rambling at times. Parts went into minute detail that seemed to drag on and on. It could have been written without the swear words or coarse language, even though there were only about a half dozen instances, I don't want to read the swear words in a "Christian" novel.
I probably won't be reading another book by this author.

Inspirational Mystery

Disclaimer - I received this book in an e-format from the author in exchange for a review.
In the beginning of the book we met Faith, she's just lost her job, ended a bad relationship and is struggling with her faith. She has a good friend named Hope who is aptly named as she keeps hope alive in Faith. While searching for work, Faith ends up helping Ursula, a German immigrant who is determined that her fiancée did not kill a Mexican drug coyote. Through Hope, Faith also meets Father John, a pastor that is going through some struggles of his own.
I find it hard to believe this is a debut novel! This book had a bit of everything, romance, friendships and suspense. I truly enjoyed the character development, the relationships and the descriptions of the landscape. This novel is Christian based, but in no means preachy. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a great story! I am looking forward to reading more novels by Elise Stone.
