Excellent Resource

This book was written in 1920, and is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the Great War. I found it to be quite helpful and detailed without getting bogged down in minutae. It surprises me how often I read reviews of similar works and find complaints about the authors' attitudes or biases, as if the books were current offerings. These works are not contemporary and, therefore, project the attitudes of the times during which they were written. If one keeps this firnly in mind, the accounts can provide insights and valuable (often first hand) information which aids understanding.

Facts are good, but difficult to read

I downloaded this book because I wanted to improve my knowledge on World War 1. The information is good, but it is presented in an unorganized style which includes reference to many cities and locations but no maps. A good introductory chapter could have provided the broad outlines on which to base the extensive narrative, and a map with the main locations identified would have helped to know better where the action was happening..

Written in the immediate aftermath of the hostilities and conclusion of the Paris Peace Conference. Cons:Completely accepts the exclusive "war guilt" of Imperial Germany. Pros: Very good review of the significance of the Balkan and Middle Eastern theaters of the war (too often neglected in other works which focus almost exclusively on the Western Front).
